hi, I'd like to confirm if anybody could really make the USB port in the
Thumnbo work as gadget. I could not, and failed after many attempts, searched and asked in the list, and only found people who could not make it work, or had made it work with previous versions of the Thumbo. I can make my summit work as gadget, but the same configuration doesn't work on Thumbo. Some people said it may be a specific pin that needs to be wired in the PCB and is not. If anybody could share a build (any version) which should work, I'd be very interested in trying my thumbo with it, since I'm about to send it back to gumstix, given that everything suggests is a hardware problem (quite possibly design related) thanks a lot! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Special Offer -- Download ArcSight Logger for FREE! It does work in gadget mode it's just that none of the stock OE
recipes configure it correctly. You have to modify and rebuild the kernel to make it work. I did this a while ago for a project but no longer have that particular build handy to send to you. I really appreciate your help, this is encouraging. However, I don't
think that's my case, as I've successfully built and used the gumstix in gadget mode (g_ether), but on my summit board. The same exact gumstix and kernel doesn't work on the Thumbo. Do you remember if you had to do anything specific for the Thumbo? (or was it just enabling gadget in the kernel in general) again, thanks a lot, any help is a lot of help! yep. This is what I did to get it working with the summit, but had no
luck with the Thumbo :( oh well... let's see what others say. What I've heard is that older Thumbos were able to switch to gadget/otg mode, but the newer models can't, do to a problem in the PCB. gera On 09/06/2011 04:15 PM, Tech wrote: > Also, see > http://www.jumpnowtek.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53&Itemid=65 > > > On Tue, Sep 6, 2011 at 3:14 PM, Tech <[hidden email]> wrote: >> It does work in gadget mode it's just that none of the stock OE >> recipes configure it correctly. Hello Gera,
Newer versions of Thumbo have a 0R resistor (R43) that previous versions did not - located near the USB connector. You might try removing that component. - Neil 2011/9/6 Gerardo Richarte <[hidden email]>: > yep. Hello again,
I took a more careful look at Thumbo and realized that it is not intended to act as a USB host. From the product page (http://www.gumstix.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=240) USB standard A plug with OTG signals (wired as a device) A similar device that will allow you to operate as either host or device is the Pinto-TH (http://www.gumstix.com/store/product_info.php?products_id=239) The 0R resistor was added to Thumbo to correct a boot issue. - Neil 2011/9/15 Gerardo Richarte <[hidden email]>: > On 09/15/2011 04:08 PM, Neil MacMunn wrote: >> Hello Gera, >> >> Newer versions of Thumbo have a 0R resistor (R43) that previous >> versions did not - located near the USB connector. I really appreciate your help Neil,
I'm trying to use it as device, either gadget or otg, but truly I'm just interested in g_ether. I have compiled and used g_ether on my summit, no problems. But the same SD card with the same kernel and modules doesn't work on my thumbo. I will try removing the resistor as you suggested earlier, or do you think now that it doesn't make any sence? I'm truly sorry to keep asking the same questions, I feel stupid :( but I have no other ideas left gera On 09/15/2011 05:51 PM, Neil MacMunn wrote: > Hello again, > > I took a more careful look at Thumbo and realized that it is not > intended to act as a USB host. Hi Gera,

I'd actually hold off on removing that resistor. I tested g_ether on Thumbo (R2666...latest I believe) and it worked just fine for me. I was using a 2.6.39 kernel with OTG mode enabled (CONFIG_USB_MUSB_PERIPHERAL=y and CONFIG_USB_GADGET_MUSB_HDRC=y). Once booted, I did a 'modprobe g_ether' to load the ethernet gadget (I had rigged up a serial console to issue this command but this could be done automatically too). 'ifconfig -a' on my laptop and my thumbo showed a USB net connection and the dmesg chatter showed a connection being established. If you've followed effectively these steps (which it sounds like you have), I think you'll need an RMA (sorry :(---that really sucks). -Ash ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BlackBerry® DevCon Americas, Oct. 18-20, San Francisco, CA http://p.sf.net/sfu/rim-devcon-copy2 _______________________________________________ gumstix-users mailing list [hidden email] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gumstix-users |
